Skyline view of Singapore from Marina Bay Sands rooftop bar Ce La Vie

Singapore is a vibrant city-state that offers an incredible mix of adventure, culture, and world-class attractions, making it the perfect destination for families. Whether you’re traveling with teens or younger children, Singapore has something for everyone—from thrilling activities on Sentosa Island to cultural immersion in the colorful Katong and Joo Chiat neighborhoods.

As a travel advisor and a parent, I’ve had the pleasure of exploring Singapore with my family, and I can confidently say it’s a destination that creates lasting memories. Here’s a guide to the top family-friendly experiences in Singapore, based on our own adventure.

1. Sentosa Island: Thrills and Fun for the Whole Family

Family Adventure to Singapore, as we ride the ski lift to the top of the Luge track on Sentosa island.

Sentosa Island is a must-visit for families, offering a variety of activities that cater to all ages.

  • Cable Car Ride:  Start your Sentosa adventure with a scenic cable car ride. The panoramic views of the island and the city skyline are breathtaking and set the tone for an exciting day.
  • Luge and Skyride:  Teens and kids alike will love the Skyline Luge, a gravity-fueled ride that lets you zoom down winding tracks. The Skyride to get to the top of the luge offers an amazing bird’s-eye view of the island.
  • Mega Adventure Park:  For thrill-seekers, the zipline at Mega Adventure Park is a must. Soar over the treetops and beaches for an adrenaline-pumping experience.

*Pro Tip*: Plan to spend a full day on Sentosa to enjoy all the activities. Pack plenty of water, as the island’s hot and humid conditions can quickly zap your energy. I also recommend booking tickets in advance to save time and avoid long lines.

2. Gardens by the Bay: A Futuristic Wonderland

Gardens by the Bay is one of Singapore’s most iconic attractions and a favorite for families.

  • OCBC Skyway and Supertree Observatory (Paid):  The OCBC Skyway allows you to walk along a suspended bridge for a bird’s-eye view of the Supertree Grove and the Marina Bay skyline. The Supertree Observatory, located at the top of the tallest Supertree, offers a 360-degree view of the gardens and the city. Both are fantastic spots for family photos and to take in the futuristic beauty of the area.
  • Flower Dome, Cloud Forest, and Floral Fantasy (Paid):  The Cloud Forest is a favorite for families, offering a cool escape from Singapore’s heat and a chance to learn about biodiversity and conservation. The Flower Dome showcases plants and flowers from five continents, with vibrant displays that change seasonally. Floral Fantasy combines art and nature with whimsical floral displays and a 4D ride that takes you on a magical journey through a dreamlike garden.
  • Free Attractions:  The free attractions at Gardens by the Bay offer a perfect mix of relaxation and family fun. Start with the tranquil Bay East Garden, a waterfront oasis that provides stunning views of the Marina Bay skyline—an ideal spot for a family picnic or a leisurely stroll. Explore the Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes, teeming with wildlife and surrounded by lush greenery. Families with young children should not miss the Far East Organization Children’s Garden, which features interactive water play areas, a treehouse playground, and plenty of space for kids to run, play, and cool off in the Singapore heat.

*Pro Tip*: Visit in the late afternoon to enjoy the free attractions at the gardens during daylight, visit the paid conservatories afterward, and stay for the free evening light show at Supertree Grove. Combining outdoor attractions and then heading to the conservatories gives you ample time to cool off before catching the after-sunset show at the Supertree Grove. For the conservatories, purchase a combo ticket to save money and enjoy multiple attractions.

3. Night Safari: A Unique Wildlife Experience

The Night Safari is a one-of-a-kind experience that allows families to explore the animal kingdom after dark.

  • Tram Ride:  Hop on the guided tram ride to see nocturnal animals in their natural habitats. The commentary provides fascinating insights into the animals and their behaviors.
  • Walking Trails:  For a closer look, explore the walking trails, where you can spot animals like leopards, flying squirrels, and pangolins.
  • Creatures of the Night Show:  Don’t miss this entertaining and educational show featuring some of the park’s most fascinating animals.

*Pro Tip*: Book your tickets online to secure your preferred time slot. Pair your visit with dinner at a local restaurant or hawker center before heading to the park for your late-night adventure. Ensure you have adjusted to the time zone for your planned visit, as a late-night activity and jet lag do not pair well together (as learned the hard way).

4. Marina Bay Sands, Merlion Park, and Orchard Road: Iconic City Highlights

Family Adventure to Singapore, holding a tropical drink at the Ce La Vie rooftop bar at Marina Bay Sands

No trip to Singapore is complete without exploring its iconic landmarks and bustling shopping districts.

  • Marina Bay Sands:  Visit the SkyPark Observation Deck for panoramic views of the city. While the infinity pool is exclusive to hotel guests, the views from the observation deck or Ce La Vie are equally stunning.
  • Merlion Park:  Snap a family photo with the famous Merlion statue, a symbol of Singapore. The waterfront location is perfect for a leisurely stroll.
  • Orchard Road:  Teens will love the shopping opportunities on Orchard Road, home to a mix of luxury brands, trendy boutiques, and local stores.

*Pro Tip*: Skip the paid SkyPark Observation Deck and instead opt for an afternoon cocktail at Ce La Vie’s Rooftop Bar for the same stunning views. We also added an order of truffle fries, which my children still rave about to this day!

5. East Coast Park and Katong/Joo Chiat: Seafood, Culture, and Colorful Charm

Family Adventure to Singapore, a family dinner at Jumbo Seafood as the author tries the crab

East Coast Park is not just a place for outdoor fun—it’s also a gateway to the nearby Katong and Joo Chiat neighborhoods, where history, culture, and incredible food come together.

  • Explore Katong and Joo Chiat:  This charming neighborhood is known for its colorful Peranakan shophouses, which are beautifully preserved and make for great family photos. Stroll along the streets to admire the intricate designs and pastel hues.
  • Seafood Dining at East Coast Park:  Treat your family to a delicious seafood feast at one of the park’s many restaurants. Singapore’s famous chili crab is a must-try, and the waterfront setting makes it even more special.

*Pro Tip*: Spend an afternoon exploring Katong and Joo Chiat, then head to East Coast Park for a stroll and dinner. Be sure to make reservations at a seafood restaurant, such as Jumbo Seafood, and try the chili crab, a local iconic dish.

Conclusion

Singapore is a destination that truly has it all—thrilling adventures, cultural experiences, and world-class attractions. Whether you’re ziplining on Sentosa Island, exploring the futuristic Gardens by the Bay, or savoring local dishes in Katong and Joo Chiat, your family is sure to create unforgettable memories.
