Last summer, our family embarked on an unforgettable journey to Bali, Indonesia—a destination that combines stunning natural beauty, rich cultural experiences, and family-friendly activities. From serene beaches to cascading waterfalls and lush rice terraces, Bali offered us the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Pairing our Bali adventure with a stopover in Singapore made the trip even smoother, allowing us to adjust to the time difference and explore the vibrant, westernized city before diving into Bali’s wonders.
While 8–10 full days in Bali would have allowed us to explore more temples, natural wonders, and other areas of the island, pairing the trip with Singapore gave us a well-rounded experience. Having five full days in Bali was the perfect introduction for our teen daughters to Southeast Asia, offering a mix of culture, nature, and relaxation that left us inspired and fulfilled, yet eager to return.
Here’s how we spent five perfect days in Bali, creating family memories we’ll cherish forever. If you find our trip inspiring, let’s talk about how you can experience all that Bali has to offer!
Day 1: Beach Day in Seminyak
We kicked off our Bali adventure with a relaxing beach day in Seminyak, a lively yet family-friendly area known for its beautiful beaches, trendy shops and restaurants, and vibrant atmosphere. The waves at Seminyak Beach were perfect for surfing, and the girls opted for surfing lessons with a local instructor.
After a day of sun and surf, we enjoyed dinner at Kilo Kitchen, a chic restaurant offering a fusion of Asian and Western flavors. The ambiance was cozy and modern, and the dishes were a treat for the senses. The kids loved the fresh juices, and the adults indulged in exotic cocktails before enjoying our appetizers, main dishes, and desserts.

Day 2: Spa, Shopping, and Relaxation
We dedicated our second day in Bali to relaxation and self-care. Starting with a luxurious spa experience, we indulged in traditional Balinese massages and hair treatments that left us feeling rejuvenated. Bali is renowned for its spa culture, and the serene settings added to the experience.
Afterward, we spent time shopping for local crafts and souvenirs. Bali’s artisan markets are filled with unique treasures, from handwoven textiles to intricate wood carvings. The kids loved picking out small keepsakes to remember the trip.
We spent the rest of the day relaxing at our villa, enjoying the private pool, and soaking in the peaceful ambiance. It was the perfect way to recharge before diving into more adventures.

Day 3: Exploring Culture and Nature
On our third day, we hired a private driver to explore Bali’s rich culture and stunning natural beauty. A private driver created a seamless day and let us fully immerse ourselves in the experience.
We started at Tirta Empul Temple, a sacred site known for its holy spring water. Walking through the temple grounds, we admired the intricate architecture and learned about its spiritual significance. The kids loved spotting koi fish in the ponds and exploring the peaceful surroundings.
Next, we visited Tegenungan Waterfall, where the short hike led us to a breathtaking cascade surrounded by lush greenery. The kids splashed in the cool waters while we soaked in the serene atmosphere—a perfect spot for families to connect with nature.
For lunch, we stopped at Uma Ceking Resto, a charming restaurant overlooking the iconic rice terraces. The fresh Balinese dishes were a treat, the service was top notch, and the outdoor dining experience was serene and relaxing. Afterward, we headed to the Uma Ceking Swing, where my oldest daughter opted for the zip line and swing experiences. The delight and joy were evident and she proclaimed this bucket list worthy and a highlight of her time in Bali.

Day 4: Exploring Nusa Dua
On day four, we ventured to Nusa Dua, a luxurious area known for its pristine beaches and upscale resorts. The calm waters at Nusa Dua Beach were ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. We opted to spend time at a local beach club and restaurant, as it allowed for access to pools, restaurants, and lounge chairs. While it was a cloudy day, we still found this area to offer a tranquil atmosphere that made it a perfect escape from the busier areas of Bali. For families with smaller children, couples or honeymooners, this area would be an ideal central location when visiting Bali.
Day 5: A Day at Potato Head Beach Club
One of the unique aspects of Bali is its abundance of beach clubs, and we spent our final day at Potato Head Beach Club. This stylish spot in Seminyak offered stunning ocean views, a pool, great music, and delicious food. The kids loved splashing in the pool while we lounged with refreshing cocktails and enjoyed the laid-back vibe.
Potato Head is more than just a beach club—it’s a hub for relaxation, entertainment, and great food. We indulged in fresh dishes and tropical drinks while the children enjoyed mocktails and we all soaked up the Bali sun until sunset. It was the perfect way to end our trip on a high note.

Tips for Traveling with Kids in Bali
Traveling with kids in Bali is easier than you might think. We found these tips helpful:
- Be mindful of Bali Belly: Travelers often suffer from Bali Belly when they consume contaminated food or water. Drink bottled water for both hydration and brushing your teeth, and avoid ice unless you know it comes from filtered water. We also made sure the kids ate freshly cooked food and avoided raw or unpeeled fruits and vegetables.
- Choose family-friendly accommodations: Seminyak offers plenty of resorts and villas with kid-friendly amenities like pools and spacious rooms.
- Plan for downtime: Bali’s beaches and villas are perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring.
- Be mindful of scooters and narrow streets: Bali’s streets can be quite narrow, and scooters are everywhere. When walking, especially with kids, stay alert and cautious as scooters, pedestrians, and cars all share the same space. If you’re considering renting a scooter, ensure you’re comfortable navigating Bali’s traffic and always wear helmets.
- Embrace local culture: Many attractions, like traditional dance performances and temple visits, are engaging for kids and offer unique learning experiences.
Why Bali is Perfect for Family Travel
Bali’s blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and family-friendly activities makes it an ideal destination for families, particularly those with tweens and teens. Whether you’re surfing at Seminyak Beach, exploring waterfalls and temples, or relaxing at a beach club, Bali offers something for everyone.
